Please join us for our annual Nuns of the Battlefield Mass on Sunday September 27, 2026 at 11 am at the Cathedral of St. Matthew on Rhode Island Ave NW. The Monument is across the street from the cathedral and LAOH erected in 1924 to honor the Nuns who nursed the wounded on both sides of the Civil War. Most of whom were Irish. We will have a short ceremony after Mass at the monument and lunch after at a local restaurant.
The LAOH is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Nuns of Battlefield Monument on Saturday September 21, 2024 with Mass at 12:10 pm at the Cathedral of St. Matthew on Rhode Island Avenue NW. We will be unveiling a Wayside Marker that the National Park Service helped us develop to tell people about the Monument. The Monument shows the 12 orders of Nuns who nursed the wounded on both sides of the Civil War. Please join us at the Mass as it is open to the public. The Monument is across the street from St. Matthew. If you can’t join us on that day, just go and see the Monument when you are in Washington, DC.
